Social Evening At Al Gonquin's
Al Gonquin's Cottage Grill To launch our pride week, on Monday 16th June we hosted an informal social evening at Al.Gonquin's Cottage Grill in Newmarket.
The event was attended by more than 25 community members of various age groups as well as their families and friends.
Social Evening At The Golden Flame
Golden Flame restaurant/diner Later in the week, on the Thursday evening we hosted a second social evening at the Golden Flame restaurant/diner in Richmond Hill. Once again, this event was well attended.
Rainbow Fusion
Bayview Secondary School More than 60 youth attended our Rainbow Fusion party at Bayview Secondary School on the evening of Saturday 21st June.
To facilitate attendance by youth from the north of York Region, Georgina Transit provided a free bus service to the event from Keswick, also stopping at Newmarket and Aurora.
Music was provided by DJ Monation and the evening also featured incredible lighting, lots of prizes and giveaways, video games, and refreshments.
Pride Picnic And BBQ
York Pride Fest Picnic+BBQ Our main event for 2008 was held during the afternoon of Sunday 22nd June at the Community Safety Village, within Bruce's Mill Conservation Area near Stouffville.
Community Safety Village The Community Safety Village, located in the heart of the conservation area. is a York Regional Police facility used to teach fire, traffic and personal safety to primary school children.
During the event, welcoming greetings from York Regional Police were delivered by Chief Armand La Barge, and our keynote speaker, Anna Travers, spoke on the topic of the recently launched Ontario Rainbow Health initiative. John McCallum, MP for Markham/Unionville also attended our event and spoke to attendees.
Jamie Miller In addition, live music entertainment was provided by Kim Brown, as well as Jamie Miller and Craig Riley.
Jamie Miller A community fair featured a selection of community organizations and offered information on a range of LGBT related topics.
Toronto Pride
Jamie Miller The week following our own pride week, we participated in the Toronto pride parade on June 29th. This was the first time ever that LGBT organizations of York Region had been represented in the pride parade and our parade volunteers included representatives from many of those organizations. They carried banners advertizing York Pride Fest and GayYorkRegion.com, as they marched in the parade in front an audience of more than one million spectators.
Pride Displays
Throughout Pride Week, pride displays were mounted at Public Libraries in Aurora, Holland Landing, Keswick, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Vaughan and Whitchurch-Stouffville.

Proclamations
In 2008, Pride week was again granted official recognition by York Region. It was also proclaimed by all municipalities, except King Township which continues to enforce a 'no proclamations' policy introduced in 2004.
