• 2016:
  • Festival Review
June 11th-19th, 2016
2016 marked the sixteenth year of pride celebrations in York Region. This year:
  • We celebrated the tenth year of York Pride Fest, which was launched as a new annual festival in 2007.
  • Pride Week was however overshadowed by the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, on June 12th
  • The City of Vaughan hosted its first official flag-raising ceremony to launch our Pride Week.
  • The City of Markham raised the flag during a Vigil for Orlando held at the Markham Civic Centre.
  • As in previous years, official flag-raising ceremonies were also hosted by the Towns of Aurora, Georgina and Richmond Hill as well as York Regional Police.
  • Pride awareness displays were mounted at major public libraries across the region.
  • Our Pride Church Service was held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Newmarket.
  • Pride Week included social events in Keswick, Newmarket, Richmond Hill and, for the first time, also in Unionville.
  • We staged our fourth annual Pride Parade on Yonge Street in Richmond Hill.
  • The parade was followed by a walk of rememberance in honour of the victims of the Orlando tragedy.
  • Later that afternoon, a Community Pride event at the Falcon & Firkin pub featured live entertainment and our community fair.
More details and photographs from last year's festival will be added soon. In the meantime, check out the video below which features some highlights from the 2016 Pride Parade.
